PFAS and PFOA Updates for Zone 7 Water


Monitoring Update  May 2022– Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS): Second quarter sampling results are available. All treated water supplied by Zone 7 to our customers remains  below the State’s Response Levels (RLs) for PFAS. Overall, this quarter’s PFAS concentrations  in Zone 7’s groundwater wells are all within typical variations.

Draft Federal (EPA) MCLs for PFOA and PFOS are anticipated around the fall of 2022 with final MCLs probably around the fall of 2023. Draft State MCLs for PFOA and PFOS are anticipated for 2023, with final MCLs sometime in 2025  

Chain of Lakes PFAS Treatment Facility Project: A 60% design submittal is scheduled for submission on June 6. The 100% design is tentatively scheduled for October 2022. The environmental consultant completed the Initial Study (IS) and sent it to  Staff for comments and finds that the environmental document for the project will be a  Categorical Exemption due to the facility being completely within the existing Chain of Lakes  (COL) 1 well site. This does not require Board approval in order to file with the County. Completing the design and CEQA analysis document is necessary for completing the State  Revolving Fund (SRF) loan application.
